M4A1 Sherman Hull and Tropical Spitfire

Post by pickelhaube » Sun Feb 21, 2010 5:30 pm

I am about halfway through my commission work and probably toward the end of the week I will be ready to start a new project.

The first will be a M4A1 Sherman hull. Anybody down with this ? I plan to make it to fit on the 21st Shermy and the FOV as well.

Est price about $85.

Also I had a poll a while back on planes I plan to build. The winner on this poll was the Tropical Spitfire with clipped wings and Vokes filter .

Is ther still interest in this ?

Let me know on both. If there is little interest I will continue with back burner commisssions and plan on my next FULL BUILD project.

I'd be interested in the tropical spitfire, but would REALLY like to see the UH-1D Huey Or Vietnam Cobra mod first.

Heck, I imagine Pickelhaube could even make an ME-163 Comet for around the same price as the SDK-222 or less. That was my vote over the Tropical Spitfire in that long-ago poll anyways

Still, I look forward to seeing the looks of the final results, particularly for the Spitfire 8)

What's different about the tropical Spit? Would it just be the filter and can we clip our own wings, or...

still interested in the tropical spitfire.

The tropical spitfire would be a MK V spitfire, with a longer pointier spinner, and air filter....other small changes too, like a larger air intake under the port wing, like the one under the starboard. I believe the plan was to have clipped wings as well...i hope that is still the case.

Plus it's a full spitfire kit, not just bits and pieces to be added to your existing 21c spitfire..

It is also devoid of the front armor wind shield and has the larger cannon for arment. Yes the clipped wings are a must.

I could do the Vokes filter by itself but those Spits are getting hard to come by and are over $100 so my thinking is to make the whole bird.

The M4A1 Sherman is the CAST hull. This version saw duty on almost every front in both theaters. In can go with either the 3 part trany or single cast.

It was also used alot for the funnies. This vesion is a must have if you are a Sherman fan.

I will make the hull by itself to keep the price down. You can canablize off of the mother tank for the parts.

I also will make a pacrts package for those who want to go that route.

Any more interest in the M4a1 ?

The Me-163 should be a walk in the park. But it was beat out by the Trop Spit.

I think I'll have to pass on the sherman Hull, I still need to save money for my M-10. After that perhaps another 222 or the Hun's Stug kit :?

If you sand it just a little to get the shape a little better and then make the texture this will look great :D
Yours is the 76 mine will be the 75.

Barrels are kind of easy but a little bit of work ( ? )

1. Get a tube that you want to be the main tube. This should be your smallest diameter.
2. Get a tube that will be your bigest diameter and put it on the end were you want your barrel to end.
3. Get wax paper, denatured alcohol, bondo and bondo glazing.
4. Wipe your barrel to be down with the alcohol and let it dry.. This takes just a few mins.
5. Lay the wax paper on a hard flat surface.Wet it with the alcohol.
6. Mix the bondo and spread it on your barrel. ASAP roll it on the wet wax paper to get the taper. WORK FAST .
7. Rough sand to shape. Repeat until you get your shape.
8. Use the glazing to touch up and fill holes.

Easy as pie.

I would be in for a M4A1 hull, if you decide to do them.

Well it looks like the Spitfire fell out of favor.

I was even chided about it because I did not make it happen.

Good thing I did not make it.

So I guess that idea gets shelved with the many others. When I get closer I will make a new poll and we will see what turns up.

Here are the older poll posts.

Here is the last armor poll. This full build is getting closer than I thought.

Unless I do those crazy atomic bombs.

Sorry to hear about the Spitfire PH.

It seems like each time you suggest a project - we all drift off and starts talking about other wishes in stead of staying focused on your suggestion

I was totally in the dark about that armor poll. I know it's over, but I still cast my vote.

I voted for the Stuart, so I'm happy about the outcome.

That's one kit I'll definitely take part in.
I looked at the trap, Ray.

PH,

I think the time between the polling results and to starting production is too long

people might drift or wander off, circumstances or desire might change,

or they were just voting and not really with 100% conviction to confirm order.

You might consider re-booting a smaller poll (spitfire, sherman hull, komet) and get started right away on production for the winner (or at least 10 deposits), hopefully without getting side-tracked by other projects etc

You are still the man and love your work :D
