Post by dragon53 » Tue Feb 09, 2010 9:36 am

It's been one year since Monkey Depot's massive clearance of 21st Century models.

That was a fun time, now wasn't it 8)

While I didn't clear house like many others did, I did get a Panther, an extra 88 gun, and a bunch of US and German figures for cheap. I eventually sold the hummer, ME-262B, and Avenger I also got in that sale for quite a bit more than I paid for them on ebay.

There really was never anything quite like it in our collecting experience, except for the occasional Wal Mart discounts. We're not going to see something like that for some time now.

Indeed, it was a great time to acquire or add extra items at bargain prices. I still have most of the stuff I purchased from Monkey and probably will hold onto them for sometime now since they'll be much harder to locate at a reasonable price.

I built a small shed out of boxed XD product with my haul!

Seriously, I got some great bargins, but missed a few items towards the end when I waited too late to push the order button.
The prices were INSANE!

Of course, along with the sale was the continued conversation on this board as of the status of 21st Century. We all were wondering what was happening and had all kinds of theories.

Good times, good times...

The Schutzstaffel Set for $10 was the best.

Wow a year already, man those were some great sales. I'm with Stug on the $10.00 Schutzstaffel figure set. I got a Chinese Mig for $15.00 and then the Me-262 and night-fighter version and Panthers. oh and two Avengers, I'd almost forgotten about them.

I also checked the MD site several times a day and then went looking for the credit card.

While this seemed to be the end of 21st Century Toys, I hoped they'd somehow make a come back........... One Year ON, We've have ALL-GO! I wish them all the best! As I've said...21st's fans never went away, we just waited for their return...................................... 8)

I came in late on the MD sale after my brother wisely made some initial purchases.

My favs:
- $5 Pak 40s
- 4 packs of US Halftracks w/ Quads
- 4 packs of Chinese MiG-15

(Though I never bought the MiG-15 pack ... should have, it is an awesome plane, and rates as a display piece.)

Who knows...maybe in a few years, Monkey Depot will have a clearance sale on All-go models.

Wasn't this also right about the time the $1 figures started showing up at WM? I only bought a small amount of the MD clearance stuff but man I racked up on the figures at WM. I'm not sure how many I bought but it was somewhere in the 150-200 range. I kept some and sold a heap of them on eBay. With a $1 investment in each one I didn't have to sell them for much to make a tidy profit.

I still kick myself for waiting too long to pull the trigger on those deals!

Yep, I got some really great deals and missed out on other ones. Now if the prices for these items goes up some more in the future, then my kids will have some good pocket change when I kick the bucket. I have 4 girls that aren't interested in any of my collections, so I will probably have to tell them to do their homework when checking prices after they inherit them and sell them off.

The best was the 21st figures at walmart for $1 then they went down to $.50

There were a couple of items I regret not pulling the trigger on.

The 88 and the P-51

My problem was that I really didn't appreciate all of these toys until I started opening them and amassing convoys or airstrips in my backyard ... so while I fortunately pulled the trigger a couple of times on the US Halftracks, I wish I had bought *more*. ;)

The flip side, is when TRU had the later German halftracks on sale for $15 a pop last August, my MD regret made it easy for me to restore balance to my motor pools.

The MD "case" deals were fun.

I bought a couple cases of 1/18 Humvees.

I give them away to local orphans as B-day gifts and even throw in a few 1/144 tanks.

Some of those boys have cried tears of happiness over those trucks.

BTW, a few people here gave me crap for saying that the Monkey Depot sale was a dumping of of 21st Century's AZ warehouse, but about three weeks ago I was able to confirm once and for all that this was in fact what happened, so I guess I'm not so dumb after all, eh? :)
