1/18 Falcon and Hornet

Post by tko24 » Mon Nov 02, 2009 1:40 pm

Have not been around this scale for a while. Are these 2 aircraft oop for good or will they be released again? I would like to add 1 of each to my 1/18 aircraft collection without taking out a second mortgage.

It is hard to say whether they are out of production or not. BBI has not released much in the way of military aircraft recently. There was a "Thunderbirds" repaint of the F-16 and a F-18 in an "Agressor" scheme proposed by BBI, but they have yet to materialize. There have been several schemes for the F-18, with the "Golden Dragons" being the most common and the inaccurate "Jolly Rogers" the most rare. The F-16 only saw two repaints - the "Wolfpack" version and a special "blank" version where one could put on decals of their own tail markings.

The common versions of the jets both retailed at $90, but now as each has sort of been out of production for a while, they can easily command over $200. For that price, you will want to wait for the 1:18 scale F-14 made by JSI. It is due out in a matter of weeks 8)

I thought the 2 variants of canadian hornets were rarer then the jolly rogers?

Don't forgot the Aussie Hornet! Isn't that one the most rare?

The rarest are the two different Australian Hornets.Production runs of 250.
The BadCat exclusives are the next rarest.
Runs of 500.
Red Devils
Jolly Rogers
Blue Angels
Marauders.

The Golden Dragons are the most common, and the "cheapest" to find.

The Blue Angels go for big bucks these days.$800+.I saw a message on the board that one recently went for $1000+
The RAAF go for a similar price. If you can even find them.I have only seen them listed a couple of times.
And I bought both of them. :D
They are very, very hard to come by.
If you want one,you better be prepared to pay a lot,as you never know when[or if] you will see another one.
The Jolly Rogers is the next most expensive version.Strange,as it is a fantasy scheme, and just doesn't look right.Usually close to $500.
Red Devils look great,IMPO.$400+easily
Marauders seem to be the least desirable of the Badcat exclusives.$350
Golden Dragons are the most common.$250+ easily.

I have them all, except for the Blue Angels.
8)
I should have got one a couple of years ago, when they were going for the bargain basement price of $500+
I will keep looking, but not sure if I am going to get a Blue Angel anytime soon. :(

I agree on the Jolly Rogers. Strange / cool looking but not really for me. Price has also helped to make decision too.

I have a Blue Angles, Mauraders, and my custom Aggressor "fighting omars" scheme.
With that I am pretty much done with the F-18.

I have 3 F-16's. A Texas ANG, a custom Alaska Aggressors, and a custom IDF "scorpions squadron"

About 3 yrs back a set with #'s 1-6, six went for $1,000 with a buy it now.

With 20/20 hindsight, that is a fantastic deal.Even at the time, that is way undervalued.
Somebody got a great deal.
Anyone from here?

I know a collector that has all six of the Blue Angels.
But he has picked them up one at a time, and before the prices got really crazy.
But he still has spent a lot of money to get this very impressive complete Blue Angels collection.
We still keep in touch.

BadCat also did an exclusive for the BBI F-16.
As was mentioned earlier, there was the standard "Wolfpack" version, and a special edition.

This special edition had a plain gray tail, which you could apply decals to create various Air National Guard units.
These were only offered through Badcat,as far as I know.

They had seven different ANG units represented, with only 100 of each unit done.
The units represented are
Alabama
Texas
Indiana
New York
California
Arkansas
South Carolina

A "Hill" Air Force Base was also available. Not sure on the history of that one, though.

These ANG F-16's are very rare, and I have only seen a couple on Ebay. And they fetch some serious money.

Through a little creative effort,I have managed to get all of the ANG units,as well as "Hill"AFB. 8)
The same for the collector that I mentioned earlier, that has every F-18,including all 6 of the Blue Angels.
He has a SERIOUS collection of BBI jets.
And mine aint too shabby either.
It did take a lot of time, effort, and money, though.
Would be even harder, and costlier to do today.

Snake, if you include your diecast, that is some serious serious airforce you got there, boggles my mind n jiggles my nutz :D

I came to the party very late n missed the wet t-shirt contest but manage to snare a golden dragons, red devils and a jolly rogers. Funny thing is I paid the most for the golden dragon, which comes in a bbi brown box. Have yet to score on any falcon though

Though the red devils is the pride of my collection, I find the black jolly rogers fantasy scheme just as beautiful, sexy n aggressive looking and is a very close second, better then the golden dragons.

Was the jolly rogers a comic-con 2004 special as shown below?
