Is 21st Century 1/18 scale items losing value?

I just saw one of our members sell a loose 1/18 scale Barn set with figure and horse sell for 14.99 on Ebay
This set use to fetch a high price not too long ago. Most of the 21stC playsets usually usually sell for a high sum when offered on Ebay.
Is there just too much on the market right now with many people dumping 21stC items on Ebay?
Or is there just a general loss of value with our hobby?

i watch the XD items from work. it seems there are just so many guys selling thier collections. i think for now there are just alot of items available. aswell as the fact that do to the economy there are fewer bidders. ive never seen so many P-47's listed at once,last week there were 12 in on week.

yes i kind of anticipated this happening, and even mentioned it before once or twice, but it is happening sooner than i expected.

Once word gets around of 21c's demise lots of people will lose interest in this scale and dump their collections; others will sell things off expecting to get lots of money for them having seen them fetch high prices in the must past, plus others will sell just to raise some cash during these harder times.

That plus the usual summer slow down of buying and the economy in general will undoubtedly drive prices down and i expect this will continue for many months to come. In a few years prices will rise again to new and unheard of levels, unless there is a ready supply of these items from another manufacturer like JSI.

I've noticed my custom sales have dropped. I'm not sure if this is due to the market, or because, I decided to change it up a bit and make some Americans instead of my usual German assortment.

when i started in this business i asked a distributor what sells best. he said three things. German! German! German!
he was right 80% of all sales are WWII Geramn Items

lower prices mean more xd for me - I already thought the prices were a bit high for some of the less rare items.

I think most of us here have a mix of purpose on what we buy for XD.
I know for a long time, I was able to sell on Ebay to fund my XD habit.
I use to be able to find some new XD item and throw it on Ebay for the masses to fight over it with me benefitting from the final high dollar amount.
But now with Ebay being as it is (changes, fees, general pain in a$$ to sell on and now XD getting lower prices on Ebay) my only outlet to sell XD is on the board. I don't feel bad if some chowder head in Guam wants to pay $$$$ for my XD on Ebay. But I can't do that to you guys. You are my brother-in-XD-arms.
So, XD is turning out to be like the stock market or housing market. Buy low and hold out till it goes up high again...

BTW- Anybody noticed how MD has raised most of it's pricing on 1/18 XD items??

This is only going to affect the hoarders out there.

Personally, if I were a hoarder trying to make a profit, I wouldn't focus on military items. My time would be better spent in the Star Wars market. There always seems to be a demand for those types of figures.

I can't imagine trying to hoard XD (other than for custom reasons). It's just a bad monetary decision. There's no guarantee that someone out there is going to want to pay top dollar for your stash of Japanese imperial marines.

Spitfire 1/18 DWK went for $255.00 today. The yellow nose JU-87 for $105.00. I wanted both of those but was outbid. Prices will not drop for the rarer 1/18 stuff

The rarer stuff that isn't being remade by JSI will hold its value bacause it isn't coming backand those prices will probably only get higher.

I don't think the 1:18 planes will be going down in price too much anytime soon. Especially for us hoarders who bought them for $39 or even cheaper at Walmart, they're still an investment. I'm just sad I didn't buy multiples of everything I got. Took out a huge loan and scoured the country!

JSI didn't buy all the molds, and I'm guessing some we will never see produced again.

The only time I spent way beyond what they originally cost was for a ZPA Spitfire at $150 (ouch), an Invasion Spit at $95, both on eBay, and a Bunker Hill TBF for $99 at the Monkey, but I suspect even these will always hold their value.
