The same rules also apply with FedEx (and UPS) though. Any parcel over 5,184 cubic inches will ship at dimensional weight, formula for which is (l x w x h) / 194 = dim weight in lbs. The 1:18 scale Avenger exceeds the limit and is thus expensive to ship. The Panther does not. One "normal" 21st 1:18 scale aircraft does not, two does, etc.

USPS has similar dimensional weight rules for Priority Mail, making priority mail astronomically expensive for longer distances (outside of zone 4).

Parcel post still has a variety of wacky legacy rules, which essentially result in up to two non-trivial surcharges for large boxes.

USPS cannot compete with commercial ground after about 3 lbs.

If you actually buy one, you only get charged 49.95 @ checkout. They must have put the prices in the wrong spot.
