May not mean much. In the 1/18 diecast world we constantly see models listed that are not out yet, they always seem to originate in China though.
They usually do not have a box. They seem to be snuck out of the back door of the factory.

I think this was brought up back on the old GP site I think he got it on accident like how the Trop 109 got out when the they sold them off there web site or he was the guy that helped out in there booth at the toy show a few years back.

I remember something along these lines being the case. There was also the all green Patton Command Car prototype that someone ( I wanna say flayrah or teamski for some reason ) bought off the shelf at TRU.

I'm betting that the auction and the status of 21st are completely unrelated.

Based on this discussion, it seems some may not be aware this is one of our members: ParatrooperCarbine.

Give him some time and he'll probably say where the protos came from. It seems to me he's had these and others for years, but I could be misremembering.

Here's his thread: viewtopic.php?t=15174

I was going to say.... I have bought and sold through e-bay with the seller on more than one occasion over the years, and there was never any known direct connection to 21st. It is nice to know that it is actually one of our own forum members, though!

It could just as easily be a test shot... Prototypes are usually not so "nice". That looks to me like it was a test shot to see how the molds did to put together a full toy. It's even cast in the appropriate colors. Toys have tons of test shots that come out.

LIke with other toys mentioned, Star Wars sees "prototypes" or test shots out on Ebay constantly before the actual toy is released. It's pretty common really, so I don't think this is indicative one way or the other of 21st selling off things in a panic. Not that they couldn't be doing that either, you never know really, but I wouldn't worry right now. I think the company would say something officially if they were bailing all together.

Just about every toy manufacturer has prototypes show up on ebay. Some are given to employees, some are taken by executives when they leave their company, some are sold out the back door, and some are just plain stolen.

Some of you may have heard of the Racing Collectibles Club of America. They sell Nascar diecast. There was an executive that left that company several years ago that sold dozens and dozens of prototypes on ebay.

I don't think this is the first time a "prototype" of this or that 21C item has ever appeared for sale on ebay, I wouldn't read too much into it.

Any news from Paratroopercarbine on the background of this item?

Yes; in the other thread he said:
About 4-5 years ago I came into contact with a guy who worked at 21C creating their box art. He got one each of the items he did art for, and also picked up these prototypes along the way. He sold me several of the boxed figures and the 1:18 items.
