Anyone own Squadron's B-36 Peacemaker In Action?
Anyone own Squadron's B-36 Peacemaker In Action?
If so, is there any illustration or information indicating which bomb bay the little XF-85 Goblin parasite fighter was intended to be launched from and where abouts in the bomb bay (ie at the front, middle or back of it) it would have hung from its trapeze? I know it was never used but i'm hoping for an illustration of how it was intended to have been used.
Any info greatly appreciated (as always).

Here's a nicely detailed writeup for the Gobblin that I found. I may help. Aparently it never flew from a B-36 - only from a modified B-29. They were also never successfully recovered while in flight, though the XF-85 itself had good handling characteristics.

Here are some photos showing the testing of the trapeze device on the ground:

I don't think we'll see one from 21c any time soon...

thanks guys...i found those sites already though; i was hoping that there may be an illustration in the Squadron book i mentioned showing which bomb bay it would have been launched from and where abouts in the bomb bay (as the bay is much longer than the plane).
It actually was recovered successfully several times but was such a taxing experience for the test pilots that it was surmised that an average squadron pilot would have little chance of ever successfully docking. My hunch is that the wind buffeting below a B-36 would have been less of a problem than under the B-29 test vehicle, though.
In the end it was cancelled also because they felt it would not be up to par with the performance of the Soviet fighters it would have met (Mig 15 and 17) and because of cost overruns.

Here's the few pages from "B-36 in action" and "in detail & scale" that have info. Unfortunately there are no pictures of the Goblin only the F84. I do have the 1/144 Hobbycraft kit somewhere in my garage if this doesn't help.
I spent about 15 min trying to get the pics on the page but I don't know how/if webshots pics can be posted directly. Click on my website button below

Those are some great pictures....maybe i can extrapolate from them. My hunch is that they would have used the front bomb bay because there would be less turbulance since it's not under the wing. But that's just a guess.
What is the hobbycraft kit you spoke of? I can look for pics of the box art on the net.
Thanks for all trouble.

Nice pictures! What a pain in the arse for the maintenance guys to set up the configuration. Being a C-5 maintenance guy myself, I know that somebody else's idea is our back break.....

I found the kit and uploaded pics to webshots. I think you'll be able to see how the bomb bay was configured. The kit has both the F84 & F85.
I also found this kit preview from modellingmadness -

That is super great! Thanks for the help Bruzzer buddy!
In case you're wondering why i asked: i bought a wooden desktop model of a Goblin that just so happens to be almost exactly 1/18 scale. This summer i'm going to scratchbuild the front section of a B-36 (from nose to wingroot) and hang my Goblin underneath it. So i wanted to get an idea where to position it. It'll be a fair bit of work but a very cool piece i think.
Thanks again for the great help!

This has nothing to do with the above topic but has to do with the B-36. There was a hour long episode on the fist link not too long ago on the Discovery or History channel:

Sorry but the B36 pic were removed by Webshots for copyright infringement. Hopefully you were able to get what you needed first. I thought there was a slight chance of that happenning.
