No one buying the IJ Troop Car?

Post by holensock » Thu May 08, 2008 4:33 am

Saw lots of pics of the Cargo Truck, but nobody here interested in the Troop Car? Not the right scale? Too 'toy-like'?

When you get some time, take some pics of the car to show us what it looks like out of the box. I have seen this car at some of the Targets and am thinking of getting one (not using the "rocket launcher") and using it to add to the kubelwagens.

I've picked one up. The scale is ok, but it could use some modifications, to make it less Toy like.

The troops car just looks too toyish to me, and I have not purchased one (yet). I may very well down the road after hearing reviews from any boardmembers that have gotten one. It certainly needs a lot more custom work than the truck does.

Blasto may be on the right track...the front end of the troop car does look a lot like the sdkfz 7...it would be too small though but would probably mate well to the xd hanomag, producing a somewhat underscale sdkfz 7.

There was however also a very similar vehicle, the sdkfz 11, which WAS based on the 251 and looked just like the sdkfz 7. I believe the sdkfz 6 was as well, but that's just off the top of my head and i'd have to check references.

Didn't we establish earlier that it was based on the Horsch staff car?

They're selling here in Pitt just fine but the truck is a pain to get at Target (unfortunately), so that's one I'm waiting on. Got a "jeep" the other day, and it's the only one I saw at Target.

The German 4WD is either a:

http://www.4x4abc.com/bmw/index.html BMW 325 4x4, or it's supposed to be a...

http://www.4x4abc.com/G-Class/g5.html Mercedes Benz G5

If anything's inaccurate on it really, it's the depth of the "trunk" area, but that's probably to accomodate the action feature/figure. I can live with that fairly minor oversight, especially after a little weathering and better paint. Otherwise it's a very nicely sculpted/detailed vehicle.

Maybe the machine gun can be a German doomsday device... Otherwise pitch it and get a Marauder MG-34 for the rear if you want one accurate to the movies.

Here are my IJ vehicles. Just a little paint and weathering makes a little difference.

Gotta ask, where's that building from? Looks real sharp from the front.

Agreed, that's an outstanding custom house... Very nicely done. THat'd look darn spiffy with the French Farmhouse, the government building, etc.

I think ive figured out what the german troop car is supposed to be. It's almost dead on to a horch. Not sure on what type of horch this is called but heres a pic:

Thanks for the compliments guys. I just used Model Masters paint from Hobby Town. I used a Panzer Gray color and it matches the cargo truck color almost exactly. Painting these vehicles is really easy and it takes off the plastic looking shine. The fake gun with the troop car is a really easy fix as well.

that Horch isn't quite right, grill is a different, more rounded shape. The toy may well not represent anything 100% accurately and was probably based on a north american vehicle like the german truck was.

Suffice to say it looks like several german troop/command cars, although i would hazard to say it's a bit over scale in size.

Great link!
I have purchased several trucks and one "Troop Car!" The Car has some good possibilities minus the laser cannon :D in the back. I would recommend on both the truck and troop car that you replace the spare tire screw with a black screw  as the silver one stands out in all the photos. But be careful, on the truck, not to pull the spare off as the plastic holder, behind the spare wheel, will fall inside the vehicle. :(
