Re: Soft skin vehicles
For Soviet stuff you are in luck - use the US vehicles and repaint them/remark them for USSR. The Soviet war machine relied heavily on US radios, trucks, etc.

Re: * New FoV 1:32 WC-63 + Review
I was planning on getting one and like you said Gary, using it to tow an Imer Reisley (SP?) 57mm AT I recently acquired. I would have to build it first of course, but figured they would make a good pairing. -Kevin That is also what I am thinking about. For a 1970's-vintage casting the old IR 57mm g...

Re: * New FoV 1:32 WC-63 + Review
Thanks for the info. I was looking at mine but it doesn't seem too badly out of proportion when sat next to some jeeps. The real truck isn't all that big compared to the GMC cargo truck. I think I can live with 1/8" - I'll just keep it a little towrds the back of any scene. These Dodge 6X6s weren't ...

It's kind of funny that of all possible accessories FoV keeps including those red/white road barricades with their US trucks, but I've never seen one in an actual photo of US trucks in Europe. Maybe somebody at Unimax has an odd sense of humor

Re: 1:32 Soldier questions
Some of the answers depend on your perception of size and how "picky" you want to be. To me 1/35th scale soldiers next to 1/32nd scale soldiers is like looking at photos of the Viet Nam War, you see a bunch of ARVN soldiers and one great big American. Yes there are different sizes of people, BUT the...

Re: green FOV sherman US flag
As with many FoV vehicles, it's just poor research. As stated, the painted flag was only used in the initial actions in North Africa. Due to the tensions between the French in North Africa and the British, the US wanted to make sure that the French knew that it was the USA coming in. The flags didn't...

Yup. Usually I associate the "Collector's Brass" name with the series of the guns and accessories that were redesigned to 1/35th scale.

New brass machine guns?????
OK, we have FoV vehicles, some older21C vehicles, some old Mongram 1/32nd kits with some re-releases by Revell-Monogram, including some Renwal 1/32nd kits. What do all these have in common? Their US .50 caliber machine guns are horrible representations! Back in the "old days" there was a series of c...

Renwal ATOMIC CANNON re-issue by Revell...
In the new (July 2011) issue of Fine Scale Modeler the Revell ad shows that their "historic kit" re-release program will finally bring us the old Renwal "Atomic Cannon" kit in 1/32nd scale. This kit originally dates from the early 1960s, but it builds up into a big impressive model. With some good m...

Re: Revell-Monogram 1/32 Re-Release?
As to the earlier question about the Jeep and gun - they are closer to 1/35th and very poor kits. Monogram went through some "schizophrenia" back in the 70's. In the late 50's into early 1960's Monogram released a series of vehicles and figures that were (ironically) very close to 1/35th scale. Thes...

Re: Ultimate Soldier 1/32 Mack U S Army truck
Interesting piece. Off hand it LOOKS like a civilian Mack with a military paint job, but the US Army did use some big Mack trucks during WW2, including the 7.5 ton Mack Model NO as an artillery tractor.

Re: New FOV undated!!
Personally I am relieved to see that the "! 1/2 ton" truck is the Dodge WC63 type. I was worried that it might have come out as the Chevy 1.5 tonner. These are seen a lot in old war movies and served in the CONUS, but few served overseas. The WC63 was used for light utility work, plus it was the pri...

Re: "Egyptian" armor
The Egyptian Army has been the only other country besides the US to build M1 Abrams. As I understand, many parts are made in the US, others are made in Egypt and final assembly in done in a plant in Egypt. I'm not sure if the have upgraded to M1A2 or not, they originally started with M1s (original f...

Re: water cooled .30 cal browning machine gun in 1/18
To add variety to my 1:18 M3A1 halftrack APC I converted one of the air-cooled guns to an M1917A1. As mentioned, I looked at my considerable supply of plastic parts and used a piece of styrene tube for the water jacket. I added a bit of small metal tubing for the barrel that protrudes from the front...

Coming - NEW GIs - WW2 and Modern...
I was getting depressed that we wouldn't see much in the way of plastic figures for 2011. I seem to have been proven wrong! Classic Toy Soldiers (CTS) has announced a new set of WW2 GIs that will be "compatible with Marx figures". They are not "officially" announced, but there is a small photo on th...

Re: Anyone ever deal with the 1/24 sherman?
One upon a time I think Finescale Modeler magazine had n article on doing this up in better detail. BIG problem - Franklin put the wrong commanders' cupola on this one. They put on the early type with a rotating gun ring instead of the vision block cupola. I'm enopgh of a Sherman purist that I won't...

Re: M8 M20 Armored car
By the way, the M8 started as a wheeled tank destroyer but ended up as the standard armored car for Mechanized Cavalry units. The M20 was intended to carry part of the security squad to protect tank destroyers. They were also used as command vehicles and other such duties. After WW2 some were used a...

Re: M8 M20 Armored car
In 1/32nd scale there was the old Monogram M8 armored car and M20 armored utility vehicles in kit form. These are really pretty decent kits. With a little careful assembly and some added details they will rival any FoV in 1/32nd. Wm Britains did a couple in 1/32nd diecast that still show up. The fir...

What about the shield ? Or did most of them do without ?[/quote] The few T30s that saw operational service all appear to have a gun shield. Slightly different profile that the shield on the M3 75mm GMC, the T30 shield allears taller but not as deep. T30s were only used in North Africa (few), and Sic...

Re: Lucky ebay grab
Add another to your list under "White Metal Kits" - Imrie-Risely US 57mm AT gun. This is basically a good model but needs a lot of detail work to make it look nicer. I believe these are still being made by Saratoga Toy Soldoiers along with the I-R US paratoopers and other I-R WW2 figures. Current re...

Re: What WW2 custom Mod do you want to see next ?
I voted for a 105mm howitzer. For a pattern, Dragon Models (DML) released a really nice one in 1/35th scale about a year ago. The 105 was the standard divisional artillery for US infantry divisions from early in WW2 through Korea. In about 1959 the weapon was changed from Howitzer, 105mm M2A1 on Car...

Re: question--FOV 1/32 Jagdpanther-Belgium, M26 Pershing
Does anyone know if what units, if any, does the FOV 1/32 M26 Pershing belong to? I'm no expert on this, but based on a quick look at the hull markings on the FOV 1/32 Pershing I'd say the M26 (the new release that is) would be from the 2nd Company of the 67th Armored Battalion, 3rd Armored Divisio...

Re: 1/18 M-3 Tank Destroyer Wrapping Up Full Build Pics !!!
Very nice project PH. You really are going great with the 1:18 stuff! For those who may not know, the M3 75mm Gun Motor Carriage was originally intended as the first US tank destroyer. After the M10s became available the M3 was withdrawn from TD use. The British used some to support armored car squa...

Re: 1/18 T-23 Turret Project Production Started !!!
1) This looks so good that I may need to get one, and I don't do much 1:18th (but I really like Shermans!). 2) I think the M1A1 gun looks best on this tank - that is the gun with a protective collar but not a full muzzle brake. The muzzle brakes came fairly late (1945) so this tank is more appropria...

Radio antenna - a US tank radio antenna was usually about 9-10 feet long. Three sections of about three feet long (each) screwed together, plus the spring base.
The turret looks really nice!
