I first found out about XD in late 2000 while stationed over in the UK. I saw the photos of the ME-109 and P-51 on-line along with the Sherman and Tiger. I wanted them SO bad, but I had to wait until I PCSed back to the states in 2001 to get my first taste of 1:18 goodness. I actually ordered both p...

The plane looks pretty good! I don't understand why the canopy armor plate above and behind the pilot wasn't painted, though....

It's great to see Mossies still in the works. Not an easy plane to restore/build. It's sad that the last flying Mossie crashed in Scotland the week after the P-38 crashed at Duxford in 1997. I hate to see planes crashed faster than they can be restored. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag5ut3tP3ZM -Ski

I just had never considered the option of buying a new one and beating it up.

Anybody know what year/model the militias are using these days?
No problem. It will be funny to see people dropping in and seeing their disappointment, hehehehe..

A very good thread, indeed. I guess if you look at the big picture, you come to the conclusion that whatever 21st did, they would of most likely folded anyways. Seeing planes immediately put on discount at WM really filled me with dread. I knew this couldn't last and that 21st would suffer as a resu...

I think the hinges on all three are pretty robust. Definately in contrast to the eggshells on the 21st Corsair!

The hinge on the gear was broken when you got it? The first series of FW-190's were notorious for broken gear. IMHO, it would be possible to have it broken on delivery if it was snapped during assembly. Did the plane have the rubberbands in place?

A while back there was a discussion about pre-paid orders financing new products. I still think that's an opportunity that hasn't been tried, and it seems to have more positive than negative points. A manufacturer would say 'we are thinking about making X model. We have been working on plans and ha...

I am a little confused as to why an anouncement MUST be made so very early in the process of creating a new plane. Why not wait until it is almost finished and ready to be preordered rather than risk losing credibility when it doesn't materialize yet again. Seems like there is much more to be lost ...

Yeah, you don't see it very often. That said, it is one of the most inaccurate schemes made. The paint scheme was for an F4U-4, not an F4U-1.
