Re: New Merit 1/18 DAUNTLESS DISCUSSION

Allrighty then, c44588, check Badcat, Aikens, and Flyingmule... Welcome back my friends to the actual discussion of the Merit 1/18 Dauntless. Outstanding model and standard setter that it is...and KoF, the exhaust is really not that bad, I think the lighting in some photos made it look a bit darker ...

Re: A realistic option for merit

I still think if we are talking about a "realistic option" then you need to look at existing molds that Merit could take advantage of, and Merit seems to lean toward Trumpeter kits/molds, even the Dauntless if based on the Hobby Boss kit, produced mold work for Trumpeter...now if we are in the "I wi...

Re: Need tips on breaking down the Merit 1/16 Tiger I

Neil, look forward to your build and any "tricks" to get the hull apart with minimal damage, thinking about doing another one (also with the late model steel road wheels.) Have fun with the upsidedown spare track links that come with the Merit TI...I ended up tossing them and adding new holders with...

Re: Need tips on breaking down the Merit 1/16 Tiger I

Ghostrider, Thanks for the kind words. Its funny because I started out just wanting to add Zimmerite and then just kept going... I could not get the tank hull to seperate, so worked around it. It would have made life so much easier with adding the commanders hatch and is why I left the beveled escap...

Re: A realistic option for merit

Just thinking out loud here, so humor me…Merit released their 1:24 scale pre built P-51 and BF 109, based on a pre-existing model kit, The 1:16 Tiger I and T-34 are based on previously released RC tanks from Trumpeter, The 1:350 Hornet is based on the Trumpeter model kit, and the fantastic SBD Daunt...

Re: New Merit 1/18 DAUNTLESS DISCUSSION

I just wanted to send my thanks and gratitude to Merit for producing this panicle of 1/18 aircraft models. In all the years of 1/18 collecting, I had always hoped, but never experienced, an aircraft or tank that did not need some sort of work to fix glaring missing details, re-painting , re-gluing o...

Re: New Merit 1/18 DAUNTLESS DISCUSSION

Ara, great review of a great new model!...as for the twin vs single .30 cals the Dauntless book by Berritt Tillman shows the planes were shipped from the factory with a single .30 in the rear and not untill the SBD-5 did they ship from the factory with the twin .30s....the twins were however, as you...

Tamyia Price Increase

Tamiya Price Increase: saw a notice from Tamiya USA that there will be an across the board increase in prices starting August 1, 2012. It stated that the price increase will affect everything that Tamiya sells in the US and everyone that sells their products. At this point the increase is expected t...

True. The one I am building, with some warts and all, was theoretically kicked out the door between October and mid November 43.

Re: Merit 1/16 Tanks

Hi David, Yes I can confirm that the track links are molded upside down. The links do not seperate from the holders. I have been reworking them and that is why they are not mounted yet on my rebuild. Should have them done soon and will post pics. Still for the money the Merit is a great subject and ...

Re: Merit 1/16 Tanks

Hi David, you are correct Merit forgot the mounts for the Feifel as well as the Zimmerit, I had to add those myself... http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/6541/p3030004a.jpg sorry the pic is a bit blurry but you can kind of see where I cut the Zimmerit for the mounts. As for the escape hatch, Merit d...

Re: Merit 1/16 Tanks

David, good catch on the jack, but as for the rest, the Merit version does fit some early pictures I have. You should pick up Tigers in combat 1 & 2 and also the books by Thomas J Jentz "Tigers at the front" and most helpful, "Germany's Tiger Tanks D.W. to Tiger I: Design, Production & Modifications...

Actually David, for a early mid production which this is, it is spot on except for the lack of Zimmerit (e.g. the bow shovel)...Image
