Re: My Old Cars SM-79 Code 3
Of course, that apple green had to go and various flaws---mainly gaps----as well as omissions like the loop range finder, missing pitot heads, etc. needed to be added. I also opted to replace the more obvious machine guns. Since some of the panel lines were painted on, I simply sanded those areas as...

My Old Cars SM-79 Code 3
As noted on the thread about an "interesting" diecast SM-79, I went and bought the 1:72nd scale "diecast" but really resin SM-79s that were being sold and found them flawed but certainly workable platforms for code 3 s. As a reminder, here's what the first SM-79 looked like: http://i635.photobucket....

Re: Interesting diecast 1/72 SM 79
The code 3 process is already underway on this model. It's upper surface is now a faded olive green with most of the painted panel lines and the upper wing insignias gone. I've added pitot heads as well as a loop direction finder and a short antenna. I also redid the white fuselage band, which now w...

Re: Interesting diecast 1/72 SM 79
So, thanks to AF's initial post, I went and bought two of these models and the first one just arrived. The model is resin, not diecast metal and it has a mostly hollow fuselage, with a weight somewhat heavier than a kit but lighter than a metal replica of the same size. It looks as if parts of the m...

Good job, cnq. I like the colors on this model, they look quite realistic.

Re: Interesting diecast 1/72 SM 79
Yep, I couldn't resist, AF. As far as I can tell, this does not represent a new line but is probably a one shot effort---I could be wrong, of course. Ill provide a full review when the models arrive and later, when I finish my code 3 work on them. Stay tuned.....

Re: Interesting diecast 1/72 SM 79
I contacted the fist seller who confirms that this is a "diecast" but "built up in resin" model. He was not clear about its basis---like if it was kit-based---but looking at the pictures, I tend to doubt it.

Re: Two WW2 Hungarian Birds Join My Collection
Next up is a 1:72nd scale redo of an IXO/Altaya ME-210. Like all of the IXOs, this cheapie model was missing key parts---forward armament, pitot head, direction finders under the fuselage, etc and it has the usual droopy and ill-shaped spinners and props, plus a lousy paint job which gave the appear...

Two WW2 Hungarian Birds Join My Collection
Both are code 3s, of course. The first one is a redo of a 1:72nd scale GE Fabbri Fiat CR.32 in pre-war Hungarian markings. The chevrons were later changed to white crosses on black squares to coincide with the German markings when Hungary joined the Axis powers on the Russian Front. Here's how it ca...

Re: Any decent Pearl Harbor pre built Zeroes? 1/72
I have one of the Hasegawa Zeros---not bad but very hard to find. Also, Corgi put out a Pearl Harbor zero from the carrier Hiryu ( blue fuselage bands ) which is, at best, fair but can be found on eBay from time to time. As for the Dragon Zeros, the toolings are quite good but the panel lines are da...

Re: Any decent Pearl Harbor pre built Zeroes? 1/72
Witty has made several Pearl Harbor Zeros, AF. They are very good, though the panel lines are to scale, hence very hard to see. I believe that all are "wheels-down" - only birds, however.

Re: Opinions Please 1/50 vs. 1/43
There are quite a few armor and other models coming out in 1:43rd these days and even though I might like all of my models to be exactly the same scale, I am flexible when it comes to whether it's 1:43rd, 1:48th or 1:50th. Some of the recent Eaglemoss stuff in 1:43rd, while needing code 3 work---in ...
