https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/z141/Warbird-Kid/Mamedoff_portrait3_opt.jpg?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds 80 years ago this month, this Mk.1 Spitfire was flown by Andrew Mamedoff of No. 609 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. Some sources say that he was born in Thompson, Connecticut,...

"Birds of a Feather" 1/72nd Corsair on a Pedestal
Another display I'm working on for the Connecticut Air & Space Center is to show (through 1/72nd models) the evolution and history of our particular Goodyear FG-1D Corsair BuNo: 92460. I've already completed the two "book ends" Corsairs from Minicraft F4U-1D models. These are two "Factory Fresh" loo...

1/144th Scale L4 & J3 Piper Cubs
My father and I got on a kick a few years ago of scaling down some Fiddlers Green paper model plans to 1/144th scale of airplanes that were (or still are) unavailable in that scale. You can see all the different models here: http://www.fiddlersgreen.net He ended up building four or five different L-...

1/144th Corsair (with Folded Wings)
In the beginning... of 1/144th scale, there were very few kits to build. For Corsairs, you had two options, both being released in 1973 and woefully inaccurate by today's standards. First you had the Revell Micro Wings F4U-1A Corsair and then you had the Mitsuwa F4U-1 (which apparently my dad had in...

Re: Pacific Dogfight (Corsair vs Dinah) 1/144th Scale
I'd hate to let my secret go but...it's styrofoam. Simple, ordinary styrofoam that you have to cut and shape (I would suggest with an exacto-knife) and paint with water based, acrylic paints. Here is my pride and joy using this method, and I hope to make more using the same process. http://images108...

Pacific Dogfight (Corsair vs Dinah) 1/144th Scale
So the reason I got into 1/144th scale aircraft is definitely, with out a doubt, my father's fault. I enjoyed viewing his builds that were (thankfully)safely tucked away behind glass from my destructive hands when I was a kid, and that lead him to building a fleet of planes for me to play with when ...

1/144th C-47 "Fat Cat" Jolly Rogers 90th BG
My dad just finished this awesome 1/144th C-47 known as the "Fat Cat" from the Jolly Rogers 90th BG. The skull and cross bombs were weird looking, so I repurposed the 1/144th B-24D "Moby Dick" tail art for Fat Cat. She'll look great next to the 90th BG A-20 Base Hack and the 5 or 6 Jolly Rogers B-24...

Filming The Haleiwa Scramble (1/72nd Scale)
Here is about 1.3 years in the making... and with the finish line close at hand. Beginnings A classic War-Film if there ever was one, 1970's Tora! Tora! Tora! was a masterful execution of a multitude of practical and special effects to recreate the attack on Pearl Harbor. Since I can remember, this ...

Re: 1:18 Scale Comparison Image
- 1/144th: Wargaming? Started out as a good scale for large scale aircraft in small size. Basic kits were first introduced in the late 70s and was a pretty small amount up until the mid 90s. More models atarted showing up. Early 2000's saw an explosion from Japan with many more aircraft being relea...

I'm also converting a P-47D to an CT ANG P-47N. I don't have spare wings and I'll probably be using sheet styrene.

I start rolling on a project and forget to snap shots! Anyways... So a couple of important pieces for this diorama: Lt. Taylor quickly pu...

Re: 1/144 P-36 UPDATE 10-26-15
There was a short run of decals of Taylor and Welch's P-40s from a guy in the UK. He was selling them on Ebay. I purchased a few 1/144th decals of them. I think he also had them in 1/72nd scale. Since then it looks like there out of print. But if you want any custom decals I'd recommend, CanMilAir D...

When I first started to research the real Haleiwa, I was a bit surprised to see where it was located. No I didn't take any of these shots, I found them online. The P-36s at Haleiwa were OD, but some at Wheeler we're bare metal like Rasmussen's P-36. http://warthunder.com/upload/image/News/Rasmussen/...

Re: 1/144 P-36 UPDATE 10-26-15
Not to hijack my father's post but, here is my end of the project, the diorama base: The concept is simple: Scramble at Haleiwa! With the planes destroyed at Wheeler, they called Haleiwa Field to get two P-40s ready. Haleiwa Field was used as an emergency airport and had only an unpaved landing stri...

1/144th Scale AT-6 Repaint
One of the new F-Toys 1/144th Scale AT-6s currently undergoing a repaint by my father. The nut even cut the canopy to the open position and added seat belts. Still need to apply the letters. I still can't believe we finally have a cheap plastic 1/144 AT-6 / SNJ / Harvard now. The only other examples...
