Re: 1:32 AIRCRAFT need THIS more than anything else!

The Tri-State Warbird Museum had a GMP diorama base donated along with a P-51D Blue Noser. I noticed the Mustang seemed small for 1/32 and then saw it was 1/35. Tried to use a 1/32 plane with the diorama base and figures and it was obvious, to me at least, the scale difference was enough to make it ...

Re: Craigslist Finds. Good deals to be had.

Cincinnati Craigslist has done well for a few of us here. We have it very well covered. Have to try a lot of different search criteria in your area though especially for loose stuff that the person doesn't remember brand names or scales. Might just be listed as "Toy Plane" or "Model Tank". Two times...

Re: What was the worst item ever made?

Trying to hang the Hellcat at the Museum was tough. Seemed like we could never get everything to stay "up". We'd get the flaps to stay and then a gear door would come down and so on. I never noticed the oversized canopy. I'll have to check that out. I did notice it has a -3 windscreen on the -5 airf...

Re: What was the worst item ever made?

I agree 100% with that. The criticism is based on the original topic. They are quite amazing, flaws and all! In 1/18 you really appreciate how big a plane the P-47 and Hellcat are.

Re: What was the worst item ever made?

The issue that I think ruins the P-47 Razorback is the profile of the fuselage is wrong. The canopy is shaped wrong. The windscreen is too tall. They continued the taper all the way to the windscreen. The Razorback on the real plane tapers up to the cockpit area and then levels out. The top and bott...

Re: The Best 1:18 Items Ever Made

I've been a volunteer since they opened six years ago. We work on displays and are tour guides for guests on Saturdays. We help move the planes around and keep them clean but only the paid A&P types actually work on the planes. The P-40M will fly again. The engine literally blew up on a test flight....

Re: The Best 1:18 Items Ever Made

Best of the Best in W.W.2 planes to me is the 21st Corsair and BBI Corsair with wings extended permanantly at the proper angle. They really got it right. The only big complaint is the bicycle like tires, just too narrow. The landing gear isn't perfect but not real obvious like the 190D or the other ...

Re: What was the worst item ever made?

The TBM is one of those ones which I feel gets votes for both the worst and best. The shear size and scope of producing it and the overall shape is very good. Then there are those dreadful wings. As an active volunteer at a Warbird Museum which has a beautiflly restored, flying TBM I have the gift a...

Re: What was the worst item ever made?

Hello, This is an old topic but I now have experienced all the World War Two aircraft types and can at least speak of these. In 1/18 scale, the 21st FW-190D in my opinion is the worst with a dead heat tie with the 109E and Razor Back P-47 coming in extremely close seconds. Runners up would be the 21...

Re: 1:32 Soldier questions

In real life, soldiers can be 5'8" or 6'4" in height. This would make scale heights O.K. Where I've found the scale differnece doesn't look right is in the size of their heads and helmets. Also, the equipment can be off just a bit. I've found that crouched or prone figures blend in better at slightl...

Thanks to all for your input. It appears that the users of this Forum are too few or too far between to do much locally. I had hoped the topic might bring some local "guest" users out of the closet and sign up for the Forum to make some local contacts. If you are a guest user, why not sign up? :)

Dragon Can Do 1/35 German figures

I've run across some 1/35 Dragon Can Do German Tiger Aces and infantry soldiers at a Tuesday Morning store. They are, as they should be, smaller than 21st. Century or F.O.V. 1/32 figures but I've found the ones in crouched or prone positions blend in O.K. with 1/32 figures and vehicles. The standing...

Local B.S.T. Swap Meets

Hello to all that are a reasonable distance from Cincinnati, OH. I don't know how many Forum Members or guest users are within this geographical area but I was wondering if there would be any interest in a get together or swap meet as we call it in another hobby I have. We B.S.T., show and tell, hav...

Re: Best-Engineered 21C 1/32 Plane

Hello to all from a first time poster. After seeing all 21stC 1/32 planes, and having a 1:1 example at our Museum, I can say that the FW-190A-F series is by far the best. It is devoid of those annoying plugs that cover the screws of earlier units. The gear is actually like the picture on the box unl...
