Skymax is alive and well

After fading out of the scene Skymax is making a comeback. I believe Skymax and Hobby Master are one in the same, or connected somehow but at any rate they are still around. I wasn't too interested in the recent Devastator re-release but they have a juicy looking Battle of Midway Val coming out earl...

Re: First pics of AF1 B-25 appear

These are starting to appear on Ebay from Chinese sellers, so it should be available generally in 4-6 weeks or so. I'm looking forward to seeing some better pics of it.

It would be interesting to get 16 of these, wouldn't it.

Any decent Pearl Harbor pre built Zeroes? 1/72

There seems to be little around in the way of a prebuilt 1/72 Pearl Harbor Zero. The FOV looks bad, as does the Oxford (which isn't PH anyway). Corgi looks ok, but costs. Anything?

Re: First pics of AF1 B-25 appear

In some ways, the AF1 model is better than the Corgi. Corgi has a few detail errors on their Doolittle Mitchels that AF1 got right. - prop tips should not be yellow (they were painted black to keep the visibility of the planes on deck, with engines running, to a minimum) -de-icing boots inboard of t...

Re: First pics of AF1 B-25 appear

i'm the same. I don't plan to buy this one (but have hopes for subsequent AF! B-25 releases, such as an early war gunship version) but was interested in it in so far that it may show how good (or ungood) the B-17 will be. Except for the turret, I think they've done a pretty good job. Not sure why th...

One member states the pics are of the final product but I think it's still not the finished product. Time will tell. It looks decent.

Re: AAV-7 by Chap Mei

it's a fun vehicle but way under scale.....about 1/24 with 1/18 sized hatches. The rear does open but interior is not very big, will fit about 4 troops iirc. I had one a few years ago but eventually got rid of it, due to scale issues (just looked dumb with my 1/18 armor). Joe scale collectors should...

Source of small open parachutes?

Anyone know of a source of small, open parachutes. Need to be about an inch in diameter. I've looked at wargaming stuff and couldn't find anything but there may be something out there.

Any ideas?

Re: Product Review: Corgi 1:72 Scale Short Sunderland

Yes I have one as well. Probably the best Corgi model I own. They did an excellent job. My only criticisms are that the paint colours are a bit dark (grey and green) and there should be more white and less grey/green around the base of the tail.....this is easy to correct with a bit of white paint i...

Hallmark Laird Super Solution 1/72

I just picked up a Hallmark Laird Super Solution. The wingspan was quoted as being 3.5 inches, so that makes it 1/72 scale. It arrived today and it is actually 1/73 scale, as the wingspan is a hair below the 3.5 inches quoted by Hallmark but close enuf for me. It's a fairly small model but nicely do...

Re: Opinions Please 1/50 vs. 1/43

if you are looking for a good variety of prebuilts you're going to have to choose between 1/50 and 1/43 as not al that much is available in 1/48, whereas there is good variety in the other scales, especially 1/43. 1/50 is far closer scale wise to 1/48 than 1/43 is. 1/50 is only about 4% too small. N...

Re: Anyone closed the divebrakes on the HM Dauntless?

Thanks again, HW.

Another option i read about was to just close the upper dive brakes on the wings. That way, the plane is configured with its flaps down and can be posed landing and or taking off. I may think about doing that.

Re: Anyone closed the divebrakes on the HM Dauntless?

both of the new yellow wing Dauntlesses coming out (blue trim and red trim versions) have brakes open. I was figuring one of them would be closed but nope, both are open. Do all the little holes in the brakes line up well when the brakes are squeezed shut, HW? What about the brake under the fuselage...

Anyone closed the divebrakes on the HM Dauntless?

1/72 Dauntless.

I'm getting a little weary of the endless stream of HM Dauntless models with open dive brakes. Once in a while would be fine, but not every model. Has anyone had success closing them...my understanding is that they are photo etched parts and could be squeezed shut.

Re: Surprising Decal Silvering Problem

yes the decals i used are very old. Probably 30 years...lol. They went on so beautifully i didn't expect this problem. I ended up just touching up with paint all around the decal, covering up the silvering. Tedious but it looks far better now. I'll try your suggestion next time if this happens again...

I applied Future over a model i was working on, then decaled the next day, then applied another coat of Future the day after that. Model looked great...not a trace of any decal silvering. The next day i dullcoted. Model still looked great. Then i looked at it a day later and all kinds of silvering h...

Found a pic of the upcoming swedish/finnish glatiator on skis. Looks like the skis are 'in flight' position but i am wondering if the'll pivot for display on the ground as well. Underside looks like it's going to be painted blue as it should be, although this picture only has tiny patches of blue on...
