They're all wobbly on the zekes.

If you want the spin effect for a photo shoot go manual and close it down while extending the exposure time.

Three WM's in North Texas yesterday and today: One had the same four Black 8 109's as last week but a smattering of new ground gear. Another has one Ridge Runner P-51 left but just got in three of the same #8 109's and a German-marked F-104. The third has a new German F-104 and the Black #8 Bf109 pl...

Favorite real airplane - Surprise  P-40. Next to favorite real airplane - P-47 Favorite 1:18 (If and when it comes out): B-25; until that comes out, my Gabreski-custom-marked bubbletop P-47. Least favorite real airplane - one that doesn't have a prop. Least favorite 1:18: F-104 Next to least ...

Because my collection is strictly WWII, the A-10 isn't really an issue. (Now, for personal reasons, and this may give away my age, if someone goes crazy and makes a Phantom II in 1:18 things will have to change.) As for moving control surfaces, my experience has been they can become a nuisance if th...

When they do Schilling's, Johnson's, Gabreski's or Mahurin's the P-47 collection will grow again. For now it's a toss-up between Eileen and Peg.

Two WM's near us north of Dallas. One had a single Ridge Runner P-51 left as of yesterday, the other has four 109's that have been there for at least three weeks that I can remember. The stuka that was there is now gone.

It seems to me that as these things get larger and larger, the whole idea of having foldable wings becomes a technological and reliability issue that isn't easily tested until you build a few and hand them to real live people to play with. With a wingspan slightly larger than anything anyone has thu...

Digger - the actual plane in question is in a photograph on page 193 of Larry Pistole's "The Pictorial History of the Flying Tigers," and in that picture (although it is in black and white) you can see that the Tiger does not have the blue V. And yet another picture of R. T. on page 143 depicts his ...

A B-25. My kingdom for a B-25!!!! 45" wingspan.

To see one of the country's finest B-25's, go to http://www.cavanaughflightmuseum.com and look for "How Boot That"

Jason - that museum is in Addison, (Dallas area) TX.

If you're looking for authenticity you're in for some hand work on the Flying Tiger version. It's a 2nd and 3rd Squadron melange. The markings of Johnny Petach (2nd Sq #47), R. T. Smith (the victory meatballs) and Duke Hedman (the walking angel) (both 3rd Sq as is the red rear fusealge band) are use...

Accuracy quirks and fixes

After collecting for a while, accuracy has become more of an issue for me than it was when I was just trying to fill in the blank spaces. I thought I'd start this with my first "squawk," the venerable 1st release of the 1:18 P-38 Lightning. I acquired this one already assembled and while it was in g...

Still filling up wall space! The aircraft are all wall mounted, gear down, nose pointed to the floor, just above 7' on up to the ceiling (12'). Makes it easy to see the underside and they're easy to dust since they don't swing around like when hanging from the ceiling.

Lots of Ridge Runner P-51's have shown up at three area WM's. One store also has three 109's (all the same) and one Stuka. Talked to someone restocking the toy shelves in one and they say they only get more when everything has sold out. The newest super WM had nothing in the way of 1:18 airplaines a...
