I use a fluid acrylic from Golden -- since I primarily paint on canvas, I don't buy special paints for miniature/54mm painting, as that would get far too expensive. I just use the same stuff for everything. I haven't had any trouble with paint scraping or wearing out, and I haven't treated these wit...

Painted plastic GI's from Conte -- pics

OK, not the painted plastic GI's that we've been promised since.... oh, since just before the war ended, I believe. I may have to check that. (I kid, I kid) No, these are the unpainted plastic GI's that have only recently shown up (at my shop, anyway), I painted a set up and putt them in a K&C ruin,...

Picked up the new 3 ton Opel from 21CT

Went to my friendly local hobby shop today and picked up the Opel Blitz 3-ton truck and the halftrack variation on it from 21CT, along with another set of the new Conte GIs. I'm really happy with all three purchases. I just finished painting my first set of the new GIs, and they look absolutely amaz...

New Conte GI's! Is it the end times?!??!

Went to my local hobby place to look at some new 1:18 stuff and to pick up the new 21CT 1:32 playsets -- the mortar pits and the listening post (all three are pretty amazing, though I passed on the American mortar set since it bears such similarity to things I already own -- I'll probably go back fo...

I'm not sure where BigBad keeps these things, but I think the site in question is BigBadToystore, which is in general a very reliable and great online dealer, though their selection of military stuff is very thin.

Actually, now that I think about it, I wonder if Unimax doesn't know EXACTLY what they are doing. Reading over some of these posts, I was thinking about how amazing some of their recent figures have been (like, specifically, the wounded soldier being helped along, and the jumping winter soldier). Th...

I can understand being frustrated, but this is clearly a case where Unimax just wants to branch out. "Who plays with pirates?" - well, you CAN'T really ignore that Disney movie. There are THREE distinct lines supporting it right now -- 3 3/4" figures from Zizzle, larger figures for the collector mar...

Actually, does anyone know if the HL line is going to show up at hobby shops, with an "enthusiast" edition? I could have sworn I saw mock-ups of packaging in boxes rather than blisters, just like the WWII figures got. And then there are the pics online that show more accessories, another indication ...

I ran out to my local Target after seeing these store reports floating around -- found just about everything, the only item I didn't spot was the $5 two-pack of Roman soldiers. The "Historical Legends" line is absolutely stunning. I compared the pirates with my Conte pirates, and they hold up wonder...

This is a pretty neat item, but you are right, it needs a little work to be worth keeping. It's HUGE. It is a pretty good 1:18 scale ruin, though, and would be fantastic with the various 1:18 soldiers out there. I did a basic conversion on mine, worked on both the wood and the stone to make it seem ...

Well, most of us have seen a great deal of this already -- the link was to highlight the NEW things. Unless you are in Europe, you haven't seen the accessory packs. And the new howitzer and 88mm haven't shown at TRU, and I suppose they won't, given the no-German policy at TRU. But maybe you know som...

So those buildings will be actually AVAILABLE, instead of the way things tend to be with Conte, where everyone is always sold out? Neat! I like the church a ton....

I know everyone will see different things in there, and it's an image that is really open to interpretations, but I want to know why 21CT put up a picture of my mom giving me a bath in front of all my friends! It's really embarrassing. That IS what the picture is of, right? Um, guys...? Law

FOV Hanomag/M3A1 reviews

Picked up the new FOV Halftracks this week -- the US M3A1 Normandy one, and the Sd. Kfz. 251/1 Hanomag Normandy deco. Some brief remarks: The Hanomag: This is now the third FOV Hanomag I've picked up. I don't consider -- or I didn't used to consider -- myself a huge Hanomag fan, but darn it, each on...

I had found these guys at Target a few weeks ago, and when I got to the cashier they were snatched away and I was told about the recall (but not the reason) Recently, they-ve reshowed, but no Sherman. I didn't know whom I was more annoyed with -- the people who made the recall necessary, or Unimax f...

Heh, neat -- but wasn't Palisades also behind that 1:32 Aliens line that never seemed to get off the ground? I know of one place that had the "swarm packs" of little green army men marines and aliens, but I never saw the playset ANYWHERE. I like this idea, it sounds fun, but I would want to be able ...

I have not seen the WWII figs since I found them, other than the ones I left on the pegs. Nobody else seems to be buying htem, and no other TRU seems to be getting them -- and no new ones are showing either. As a side note, even though this is slightly OT in this thread -- I picked up the bbi Hornet...

I found the set today, too, and I agree -- historically it may be a washout, but it's a great bargain, and a great way to get things that were never that plentiful. Plus, new decos on the figs is a nice touch. They gave one of the German paratroop heads a US body! :D And I never saw either of these ...

I suppose I'm of several minds: 1. I don't really care. I don't keep the boxes, and I forget the names anyway. 2. I don't think the names are a good idea. These are historical figures, not fictional. What matters is the history, not some invented story. If they wanted to actually use someone's story...
