Re: Any Scoop on the new 1/18th Scale Harrier...?

I must be getting too old. I can't see $200 plus for a plastic toy airplane. $150? maybe.

Re: Any Scoop on the new 1/18th Scale Harrier...?

I saw a Herrier offered at Diecastairplanes.com for $239.95. Is that the Harrier everyone is looking for? Also repaints (or old inventory) of Bf-109 for $89.95, and F-86's for $139.95. Other then the Harrier price, the others don't seem bad.

Re: back after absence

Axis and all, in High School, I was in the Civil Air Patrol. Our squadron leader was an Air Force Reserve pilot. He arranged a ride in a C-119 during the last days of their service. I'll never forget it. I agree, the Fw-190 release is critical and pricing will be important. I don't expect to pay the...

Re: back after absence

Thanks Normandy and rschaap for the welcome back. I recall hearing stories about the Merit FW-190A over a year ago. I would have thought by now there would have some good news. Normandy, do you know anything more?

Re: 1/18th Scale WACO Glider

I found some Jerry Bates plans for a 1/13.5 flying model of the Waco Glider and gave some consideration to scale it down to 1/18. It could be done, with balsa parts cut from the plans and covered with heat shrink fabric. It would be hard to duplicate detail and I'm not a scale builder. I'm not sure ...

back after absence

I guess I'm like many of you, I was a big collector in the days of 21st Century Toys , and was floored when the company went out of business. Since then, I've seen the disappearance of literally all the 1:18 warbird offerings. My last purchase was the SBD four years ago. But, I've hoped for a return...

Re: 2014 JSI/MERIT Built n Painted New Releases

I have never seen a JST/MERIT kit. But, I guess that is the trend in the hobby. Prices for "out of the box" 1:18 scale stuff are too high to get any volume. Kits (I hope) will offer better value. I don't mind building a kit. It allows for customization to build a prototype you enjoy. Yes, painting c...

Re: Where is the 1/18 A-1 Skyraider, F-4 Phantom and F-15 Ea

It floors me that Jason's Supplier feels the age of large scale (1:18) is over. Maybe he can't make it in China but that does not mean the era is over. There are US plastics companies who manufactures items for other companies using styrene. I'm sure they would love to build model parts if they had ...

Re: New 1:18 Mustangs

I got thinking! It was stated in a post these are older molds. Do they have retractable gear? With or without pilot? Why don't these on line sellers give us details? If they want orders, tell us what we are getting. Frustrating!

Re: New 1:18 Planes & Cannons from China!

If I read between the lines, I'd say Jim@Merit is telling us since these new releases have been launched in China and other countries, it is only a matter of time before we see them in US/Canada. 21C liked to announce releases months before the containers hit the sea. I see no danger in JST/Merit an...

Re: New 1:18 for 2014 ?

Thank you Granch and Normandy for your comments about the V-1. I think I'll get one. Not sure how to display it. if I hang it, no problem. I looked up (images) for launch platforms for the V-1 and found a simple transport cart which could be made out of spruce or balsa to support the buzz bomb for d...

Re: Celebrating 1:18 Anniversaries

With all the new stuff planned from 21C at their closing, there has to be assets, (molds, jigs, Etc.) that 21C was using to develop their expanding product line. Yes, these assets where sold off, but who owns them? It floors me no one has come forward with releases for the collectors which would pay...

Re: USAF mulls scrapping A-10, KC-10

In the new book "The Air Force" from The Air Force Historical Foundation, there is a drawing of a "KCX" which is a large box wing tanker flown remotely. It is at least a full generation off but it is being considered. Page 347.

This is not new, but it's new to me. I found the Pegasus 1:18 scale V-1 buss bomb from Bad Cat. Can you tell me about the quality and is it worth adding it in front of my Spitfire hanging from the ceiling?

Re: The FW-190 and Harrier..closer to fruition?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 1:18 scale FW 190A would be new to collectors. The FW190 (Dora) was the only release I recall.

Re: Celebrating 1:18 Anniversaries

I think the last 1:18 airplane release from 21C was the "Atlantic Avenger". Right after that, I started hearing all the hype on the upcoming B-25. Then nothing. Was that about 2007?

Re: How did you get started in the hobby?

I've always been a fan of WWII history. While Christmas shopping in a Toys R Us store, I found a 21C "Blue Nose" P-51. As I looked further, I found a JU-87 and a P-38 (Samantha). That was the last airplanes I saw at Toys R Us. Along came Walmart, I hate to think how many times I drove to one just to...

If someone is refurbishing the 21C molds, I'm encouraged. Even though the P-51 is an old favorite of many, It is the one I'd pick if wanting to meet the interests of the masses.
Maybe they have other molds tucked away. I'll watch this with great interest.

Re: Back after 10 years.

Since trying to become more ACTIVE in the hobby , I decided to investigate the "on line" companies selling 1:18 aircraft. As you know, I found some old 21C and BBI stuff at very high prices but nothing about upcoming releases. It is very discouraging. But I'm not down. I'm taking down my airplanes f...

Re: Back after 10 years.

What ever happened to the 21st C molds, did anybody buy them? Is there any talk about re-releases? What about BlueBox, Admiral and Merit in the future? I can't believe this market is that small nobody can justify production runs for the collector. 21st C was a big deal 10 years ago. What happened?

Back after 10 years.

Hello, I started collecting 1:18 WWII aircraft when I found an old Blue Nose P-51 in a Toys R Us store. I was hooked. I collected one of every airplane built by 21St C, and Blue Box. My Merit SBD was my last addition. There are 18 1:18 WWII and Korean airplanes in my cave. I stopped when 21C packed ...
