Re: 1/18th Spitfire Repaint (Andrew Mamedoff)

Fantastic work, Warbird Kid :D Your Spitfire is looking great so far! Thanks so much! Appreciate it. Well I got it done and brought it down to the museum for father's day, where my father and I were hanging out, talking with visitors, and making sure no one ran out onto the runway! Thanks for looki...

1/18th Spitfire Repaint (Andrew Mamedoff)

Background So in my never ending quest to fix and repair down trodden and incomplete 21st Century 1/18th scale aircraft toy / models, I started to look around my workspace for my next project. Not that I don't already have enough half finished projects! At the beginning of 2023, I moved into my fir...

Re: 1/18th Scale P-47N & P-51D Repaint

I'm late to your posts but wow, these are two fine custom planes :!: :!: I think 1:18 is a great for display in a museum setting, while 1:32 might be a good space saver this larger scale is more impressive. I may have to check out your museum one day, I'm on that island to your south. :) Thanks alo...

Re: 1/18th Scale P-47N & P-51D Repaint

I usually remove tape about 1/2 hour after spraying, but I use paints that are fairly fast drying. I also use brown packaging tape for masking, instead of regular making tapes. It's super thin and that helps reduce ridges. Be warned not to leave it on too long though, after a few hours the glue wil...

Re: 1/18th Scale P-47N & P-51D Repaint

Thank you everyone for the kind comments! It means alot! I noticed on the orange painted rudder tip you had a paint ridge. I could not notice if you addressed this later in your build. Depending on your paint that you used ( I have switched to acrylics ) You need to take off the masking ASAP this al...

1/18th Scale P-47N & P-51D Repaint

Hi Guys! Thought it'd be fun to take you through the process of me trying to repair, replace, and repaint these two 1/18th toys. NOTE: I am not really performing any major surgery or modification on these two, as I was a bit pressed for time to get them done for an upcoming show at the our local air...

P-39 and Wildcat are tops for me as they are the only two main US WWII fighters missing. Oh and a P-36 too since I missed the first run.

1/210th Scale Micro Machines "Arsenal of Democracy"

Hey fellas! Wanted to show you a little recent project that was a really nice break from the bigger, more exciting projects I've been working on. This one was almost a complete exercise in fun. https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/z141/Warbird-Kid/PXL_20220420_125044417.MP(1).jpg Backstory: As a k...

Very close to completing these three. https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/z141/Warbird-Kid/PXL_20220312_035509288.MP.jpg "Skyboss" just needs a brushed on semi-gloss to hopefully even out the two different blues and maybe add some wires. But otherwise I'm calling it done. A far cry from this mode...

Re: 1/144th Warbird Restoration Series (Corsair/P-40/P-51)

Small update. I took the P-40 and added the mast and pitot tube. Still need to touch up with brown and green, add the lights onto the wings, make a new tail wheel, clear coat it, and maybe add wires. I looked at the small gear doors that were molded into the wing and decided they are good enough. I ...

1/144th Warbird Restoration Series (Corsair/P-40/P-51)

I first started playing with 1/144th models probably around 1994 / 95 when I was 8 or 9. Back then all I had was a bunch of diecast planes and a few plastic kits, and a large wide open table top with fake grass on it. But I remember being instantly drawn towards those 144th models that my dad was bu...

1:48th B-24J "Queen of Hearts"

So after building a 1/48th scale Jeep for my father last year for X-MAS, I was wondering how to top it this year. At the same time my parents bought a pre-built shed that was supposed to be the Jeep's home in the case of an emergency. Well that went out the window, and its quickly become a club hous...

Andrew Mamedoff's Hurricane & Spitfire

Just completed the Hurricane that Andrew Mamedoff was unfortunately killed in. These two will now be going to the museum to become a small display to honor Mamedoff. Still not "wowed" by the Hurricane's prop and hub so I might replace or change it later. https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/z141/W...

Re: 1/144 Jolly Rogers Airfield Diorama

For anyone interested in how my father made the extra bits of cargo for the diorama. First he started with small cut off bits of plastic. In this case Raychem he "liberated" from work and glued it onto a thin sheet of styrene. https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/z141/Warbird-Kid/crates_1.JPG?widt...

Another beautiful (and fairly quick) build from the "old man" for the 1/144th scale Jolly Rogers Airfield Diorama were currently building at the Connecticut Air & Space Center. 1/144 Jolly Rogers Airfield Diorama

I've been putting together this 1/144th scale diorama at the Connecticut Air & Space Center in honor of the 90th Bomb Group, better known as the "Jolly Rogers". It also is in honor of my grandfather: Peter J. Soltis, who was a Flight Engineer and Top Turret Gunner in the Jolly Rogers in the 320th. I...
