Both are now on display alongside a 1/48th scale Helldiver made by museum President, Gene Madara. https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/z141/Warbird-Kid/IMG_20200928_175607469.jpg?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/z141/Warbird-Kid/IMG_20200928_175611091.jpg?wi...

Andrew Mamedoff's Hurricane & Spitfire

Just completed the Hurricane that Andrew Mamedoff was unfortunately killed in. These two will now be going to the museum to become a small display to honor Mamedoff. Still not "wowed" by the Hurricane's prop and hub so I might replace or change it later. https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/z141/W...

Re: 1/144 Jolly Rogers Airfield Diorama

Small update: The crashed Zero (along with a mostly unscathed Tony) have been added into the display along with the Jeep. I'm going to update / modify the backdrop mural a little bit, before sending it out to a printer. (Note: These shots were taken on my Dad's new phone and appear to have been scal...

Re: 1/144 Jolly Rogers Airfield Diorama

Thanks Scott! For those that don't know, my father and I are volunteers and board members for the Connecticut Air & Space Center in Stratford, Connecticut. https://www.ctairandspace.org It's a smaller museum, with about 17 different aircraft and helicopters, but we also operate our 1942 Willys Jeep ...

Re: 1/144 Jolly Rogers Airfield Diorama

For anyone interested in how my father made the extra bits of cargo for the diorama. First he started with small cut off bits of plastic. In this case Raychem he "liberated" from work and glued it onto a thin sheet of styrene. https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/z141/Warbird-Kid/crates_1.JPG?widt...

Re: 1/144 Jolly Rogers Airfield Diorama

Little update. I've gotten the background mural to a place where I don't hate it. I sent it off to the "old man" for a review and see what he comes back with. Take a look for yourself! https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/z141/Warbird-Kid/background_mural_copy.jpg?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds...

1/144th Airfield Fuel Truck

Another beautiful (and fairly quick) build from the "old man" for the 1/144th scale Jolly Rogers Airfield Diorama were currently building at the Connecticut Air & Space Center. I'll let him take it away: "This is a build sequence of a 1/144th scale WWII Airfield Fuel Truck It's a very nice 3D printe...

1/144 Jolly Rogers Airfield Diorama

I've been putting together this 1/144th scale diorama at the Connecticut Air & Space Center in honor of the 90th Bomb Group, better known as the "Jolly Rogers". It also is in honor of my grandfather: Peter J. Soltis, who was a Flight Engineer and Top Turret Gunner in the Jolly Rogers in the 320th. I...

"Birds of a Feather" 1/72nd Corsair on a Pedestal

Another display I'm working on for the Connecticut Air & Space Center is to show (through 1/72nd models) the evolution and history of our particular Goodyear FG-1D Corsair BuNo: 92460. I've already completed the two "book ends" Corsairs from Minicraft F4U-1D models. These are two "Factory Fresh" loo...

1/144th Scale L4 & J3 Piper Cubs

My father and I got on a kick a few years ago of scaling down some Fiddlers Green paper model plans to 1/144th scale of airplanes that were (or still are) unavailable in that scale. You can see all the different models here: http://www.fiddlersgreen.net He ended up building four or five different L-...

1/144th Corsair (with Folded Wings)

In the beginning... of 1/144th scale, there were very few kits to build. For Corsairs, you had two options, both being released in 1973 and woefully inaccurate by today's standards. First you had the Revell Micro Wings F4U-1A Corsair and then you had the Mitsuwa F4U-1 (which apparently my dad had in...

Re: Pacific Dogfight (Corsair vs Dinah) 1/144th Scale

I'd hate to let my secret go but...it's styrofoam. Simple, ordinary styrofoam that you have to cut and shape (I would suggest with an exacto-knife) and paint with water based, acrylic paints. Here is my pride and joy using this method, and I hope to make more using the same process. http://images108...

Pacific Dogfight (Corsair vs Dinah) 1/144th Scale

So the reason I got into 1/144th scale aircraft is definitely, with out a doubt, my father's fault. I enjoyed viewing his builds that were (thankfully)safely tucked away behind glass from my destructive hands when I was a kid, and that lead him to building a fleet of planes for me to play with when ...

1/144th C-47 "Fat Cat" Jolly Rogers 90th BG

My dad just finished this awesome 1/144th C-47 known as the "Fat Cat" from the Jolly Rogers 90th BG. The skull and cross bombs were weird looking, so I repurposed the 1/144th B-24D "Moby Dick" tail art for Fat Cat. She'll look great next to the 90th BG A-20 Base Hack and the 5 or 6 Jolly Rogers B-24...

Here is about 1.3 years in the making... and with the finish line close at hand. Beginnings A classic War-Film if there ever was one, 1970's Tora! Tora! Tora! was a masterful execution of a multitude of practical and special effects to recreate the attack on Pearl Harbor. Since I can remember, this ...

- 1/144th: Wargaming? Started out as a good scale for large scale aircraft in small size. Basic kits were first introduced in the late 70s and was a pretty small amount up until the mid 90s.
