Re: Seeking Smoke II information

tiger1: I wanted to let you know I hadn't forgotten you and your question regarding who my Dad's Crew Chief was that you asked, almost six months ago now. A friend of mine (he's in his mid 80's now) who served with my Dad and I have been researching your inquiry, with not too much luck. The problem ...

Re: Seeking Smoke II information

Unfortunately, at this time, I do not know who the Crew Chief was for my Dad's 104 for the short time it was at Udorn in Thailand before the shoot down. I do know my Dad's Crew Chief at George AFB in California before deployment was MSgt. Jerry McCall. He has since passed away. My Dad's wingman that...

You are most welcome. As a reminder, a lot of information regarding my Dad can be found on the Net by conducting a Search with his name, and by visiting the Facebook Page I created for him, the "Colonel Tom Finney Remembrance Page." Thank you!

Re: f-104 smoke ii service history?

To all who may still be interested: I had mentioned previously that a replica of my Dad's aircraft, "Smoke II", was on display at the March Field Air Museum in Riverside, California. It has since been relocated and is now on display at the Yank's Air Museum in Chino, California. A Link is below. Any...

tmanthegreat: I'm also guessing late '50's or early '60's. Thank you for the info and the additional picture. I'm going to try the DoD next in my quest to date the photo. I'll certainly let the Members know here should I ever receive a definitive answer.

Re: f-104 smoke ii service history?

tmanthegreat: Thank you for Posting those photos. Most appreciated. And if you or anyone you know can establish a month and year for the bottom photo that would be great. As stated, I've tried several avenues with no results. After researching I've discovered that 57-0925 was built in fiscal year 19...

Re: f-104 smoke ii service history?

Greetings fellow members! I recently came across two photos of my Dad's aircraft, the real Starfighter 57-0925. I tried to Post them here but was unsuccessful, possibly because I admit I'm not too techno-savvy. So I'm providing a Link to my Dad's Facebook Page which I created in his honor. Both of t...

Re: f-104 smoke ii service history?

zodiac flash~~Strictly artistic license. His wasn't stars and stripes. His and all his men's helmets the day they departed George AFB were the basic olive-drab, as I recall. Normally they were white, but they were off to war. It was July of 1966, I was 13 at the time, and that was a long time ago, b...

Tinman~~Thank you for your generous offer! Honestly, another Member here on this Site extended a similar offer to me just yesterday, although I have not heard back from his as yet. Just the same, either way, I would gladly accept your kind offer. I have a younger brother, who was only 3 when our Dad...

Re: f-104 smoke ii service history?

Thank you for your information, and for the Link. I can see the probe now in the Link's picture. I looks 100% accurate, as I remember from July of 1966. The Link stated the aircraft was in Southeast Asia in 1968 which is incorrect, it went down on 1 August 1966, but someone really did their homework...

Re: f-104 smoke ii service history?

parrish 333~~Thank you for the Link! The model looks almost 100% accurate as I remember, except for one thing. The ugly refueling probe that extends forward by the cockpit is not there, likely because the aircraft looks a lot more streamlined without it. Even the 104 at the March Air Museum is witho...

Re: f-104 smoke ii service history?

No, I don't. I was going to ask the same thing! After finding this Site and going on the assumption that there is one, I would like any information on it, i.e., which company, availability, etc. Perhaps that info is on this Site and I'm just missing it...Thank you!

In reference to your questions regarding F-104C Starfighter "Smoke II", a replica is on display at the March Air Museum, Riverside, California.
