An Answer...Sorta

I can answer part of that. The speed at which the blast wave travels depends on the air density. The higher the altitude, the thinner the air density. Lower to the ground and the density rises. Thermal radiation from the light travels at the speed of light, however, the thermal radiation deminishes ...

Finally Got "Killer"

I was afraid that "Killer" might run like some other BBI products and I'd never get my hands on one. But some of you reported seeing them in TRU and I thought I'd check. Sure enough, there were two...and I finally got mine. A few observations....these might also apply to "Cripes O Mighty" and "Hurry...

Proof?

Unfortunately...proof some 60 years later is gonna have to come from already archived materials. A Griffon powered photo-recce Spitfire (previously practically untouchable) was downed and the RAF pilot captured. Interrogation records (one thing the Germans liked was records) have shown that the RAF ...

HE 219 Data

Nope...sorry but your answer was not in the form of a question..hehehe! Actually, the 219 had it's first sortie in June 1943 (first test and it shot down 5 British bombers in 30 minutes). Operational squadrons received them starting in November 1943 and they served throughout the end of the war as o...

Salamander

I believe you are correct that the DO 335 Pfiel (Arrow) was fitted with an ejection seat, but the first "operational" aircraft was the HE 219 Owl. The seats were ejected by use of compressed gas and threw the pilot and radar operator clear of the twin-tail. The DO 335 also had explosive bolts to sev...

My Choice

For WW2..gotta go with the Hellcat from the Ironworks...but for modern, the Phantom II has my vote. No other recent aircraft had so many variants and so many users.

pics...

This is a disassembled P-39 that gives an idea of the cockpit structure around the windscreen. I've sat in one that was rebuilt, but the armored glass was left out to save weight and improve pilot visibility after the rebuild. Wish I had pics of that one! http://pages.sbcglobal.net/ralph.jeffries/_u...

Mystery Glass

I've search photos of several aircraft volumes I have. None show a perfect match, but a couple stand out as extremely close possibilities. Both the P-39 Airacobra (mentioned earlier) and the P-40 Warhawk (especially early versions) had armored glass added to the inside of the forward windscreen for ...

Armored Glass

After looking at the pics of your glass, a few things stand out. First, it's obviously meant as internal "add on" armor and mounted at a slant (like inside of a windshield). I don't think turrents used them. The oval would then look like a circle at the right angle....hence the slant. Second, becaus...

Sorry Dude...Too Late!

I started collecting in about 1991 in 1/6th and expanded from there. The 1/18th scale is just a "recent" addon. I do some custom stuff...can't stand anything straight from the box. Last November, I entered a reconfigured 1/6th Littlebird in a more accurate "Cayuse" Vietnam version with crew and took...

Apples and Oranges

Not to ruffle any feathers, but I'm not sure "barometer" or "thermometer" describes Ebay correctly. Value is relative...it's whatever a buyer is willing to pay for whatever. Large scale value or "fair market value" has to do with too many things to go into here....but to make short of it....if a 1st...

Latest Office Wall Additions

I've added "Jabo" and "Eileen" to the office walls....BOY! Have I gotta get a bigger office. With another F/A-18 on the way and possible a custom F-16C too, it's getting kinda crowded up there. http://pages.sbcglobal.net/ralph.jeffries/_uimages/EILEEN4copy.jpg http://pages.sbcglobal.net/ralph.jeffri...

Black 12

I guess, from what I'm hearing on the other boards, that the "Black 12" or S4 version of the 21C FW190 D9 is fairly common. A friend found two in a distant WM and got them. Here are pics fresh from the box... http://pages.sbcglobal.net/ralph.jeffries/_uimages/BLACK11copy.jpg http://pages.sbcglobal.n...
