Repairing front strut
Todd, I have had the front strut apart now several times. Very surprised it broke where I think you are saying. It looks like the hole was intended for a reinforcement rod, but left out for whatever. If you like, I can test putting a rod in mine to see how that may fix your break. I am rebuilding th...

Very, Very Sad!!!
This is all so very sad! I was hoping everyone would be thrilled with their new birds. I guess I am one of the lucky ones in that my cat is almost flawless. I hope there are some of you out there in the same boat and really loving it. I still cannot get over the perfect engraving. Oh well....

Sucessfully removed the seats!!!!
I was able to pry the seats loose with a flat blade screwdriver inserted from the back at the base of the seat. I turned the screwdriver to pry the two tabs loose from the floor.
Be very careful if you try this!
I am now free to detail out the cockpit and seats!!!

Unfinished F-14?
What are the chances that JSI might sell unassembled & unpainted F-14 kits?
I would gladly pay 100 bucks for all the parts in a bag.
Any thoughts?

Canopy Fix!!!
I just figured out how to get the canopy to stay open! With the battery compartment cover removed from the lower side of the cockpit section, you will find a slot which the clear canopy pivot tab protrudes down though. The tab has a notch which is supposed to engage the front of the slot and hold th...

Mike: Great job on your bird!!! I had my airbrush ready, but was so facinated by the sponge method and was really pleased with the results. A Little Dab L Do Ya!!!
Thanks out to Deankleines for his easy "makeup pad" method. I went ahead and masked the tampo prints and was going to airbrush but decided to try the makeup pad idea. It works great. I just dabbed the whole plane since I had it all masked off anyway. That way I didn't have any spots that were shiny...

Re: Nice work
Looks great Dean! I know there has been some back and forth about which Model Master color is the dead on color. Is it the Gull Grey flat or the Light Ghost Gray? Which is the best match? Thanks! The Gull Grey is the match. I only tested the light ghost grey because I did not have the gull grey in ...

"A Little Dab L Do Ya" Enamel of Acrylic?
BPX Brian and all: The way this has progressed since bird delivery last week has been incredibly fun! Just did another test with a very ancient bottle of Model Master acrylic. I did not have gull grey so next closest off the shelf was light ghost grey FS 36375. Hands down, the acrylic wins over the ...

Acrylic vs Enamel
Being a professional car painter back in the day, I liken the difference between acrylic and enamel Model Master flats to the difference lacquer and enamel paints use to be on cars. Night and Day. You have viscosity issues and a whole host of other factors. With that said, I decided to just quickly ...

Tried Dean's method with Model Master Acryl. Started on a drop tank and found that paint was very thin. I couldn't achieve a mark free surface with the makeup wedges. I image Dean's enamel paint works better, maybe it is a bit thicker in consistency? Brushes may work better with Acryl. I've decided...
