Re: EDUARD COCKPIT PHOTOETCH FOR JSI 1/18 F-14A/B TOMCAT
"Placards" are data plates. Think restroom identification on a passenger jet...or "emergency handle" identification on a passenger jet door.

Re: Is Bad Cat about to give up the ghost...?
Snake is spot on. Bad Cat did concentrate heavily on 1/18, perhaps too much. They smartly did cover 1/72 diecast and some 1/48 Hobby Master but didn't push those long term products as strong as 1/18. They also didn't get invested into 1/200 airliners. Those are selling quite well. For the past coupl...

Re: WEIGHT OF AN 1/18 MODEL
For linear dimensions this would be correct. For weight, not really. Simple division of F/A-18's weight of 23K lb / 18 equaling over 1K lb is way off. The true scale weight is using the cube rule. Divide the weight by 18 three times. Therefore a F/A-18's 23K lb down to 18 scale would come to a littl...

The ME-262 without a doubt the most rare of your list. Runner up? Tough call. Someone else may have a better answer for that one.

Re: FLIGHT WING MORE RELEASES DUE SOON
Jim, Folding seems nice, but it's overrated. Fixed is where it should be. The Avenger has as much dihedral as the Hellcat. Due to their hinged wings, they never showed proper dihedral. That reduces the appeal. Also the Avenger mold is fantastically detailed and shows beautifully. It's appearance is ...

The FW-190 and Harrier..closer to fruition?
Interesting seeing them listed in the MRC/Merit catalogue...in Chinese and as model kits? An A-5 and an A-8? Wow! Prebuilt and a kit Harrier too? Interesting...

Re: merit Announcment
I could agree that $190 to $200 for the Harrier's price would be reasonable. I bought both Dauntless's for $169 (minus shipping) which is the 1/18 standard bearer for detail. I don't think the Harrier will eclipse the Dauntless for detail. Match, sure. Exceed, no. The F-14 for detail (disregard the ...

Re: merit Announcment
The Harrier is small. In 18 scale it will be a smidge longer than a P-51 or F-86 with a shorter wing span than either. Nice that it appears to be well detailed with crisp lines. I'm sure it will be a well built model. But with all that, plus plastic gears ( for the love - please stop using retracts!...

Re: What clear coat to use?
Any clear lacquer or enamel runs a very high chance of yellowing. Smoking isn't the cause (although I bet it adds to it), neither is sunlight (or lack of it). Nitro cellulose lacquer will yellow (hence lacquer clears from Testors yellowing) Oil based alkyds or urethanes or linseed oil, etc are commo...

Re: merit Announcment
As cool as it would be to have the next 1/18 F-14 released into any of the historical specific Tomcat squadron liveries of Mig or Sukhoi killers, I don't think JSI will nor will Merit advise them too do such. "Looks" sells. Sadly the two VF-41 and the two VF-32 victors over Libyan aggression are on ...

A Harrier? That's roughly $200+ I'm saving. Zero interest. Happy for the fellas who've been wanting one. I hope it's a smashing success leading someone to make either the A-10, F-15, F-4, A-6, or Super Hornet

Re: merit Announcment
I may also be in the minority, but I would love to see the Tiger II. It has beautiful and precise lines. Lots of repaint potential. It was never capable of carrying ordinance in the amount of Super Hornet or Strike Eagle or even the F-16, therefore being a smaller, simpler design with much less ordi...

Re: merit Announcment
So, single seat, fairly modern eh? I'm really stoked about the F-5 if that truly will be the release. It's such a beautiful and elegant design. A very appealing aircraft. An A-4 would be nice choice too (with lots of repaint potential) but it's nowhere near as appealing as the Tiger II. I'm dreaming...

Re: Thoughts on 1:18 scale A/C kits? Would anybody make them
Give it time. I think 1/18 scale kits will slowly infiltrate the market finding their own niche. The Dauntless will set the tone initially. The prebuilt Dauntless is every bit as detailed as the high market 1/32 kits from Trumpeter and Academy, almost as close as Tamiya. If it's successful, definite...

On Shapeways, is the $5.21 price for one tire or the pair? Has anyone else made a purchase yet? Just wanting to make sure I complete all hurdles when I'm buying my sets.

Re: Choice your most wanted plane and helicopter for 1:18 **
My absolute dream plane in 1/18 has already been produced. You can figure that one out by my avatar name. Too bad JSI screwed up the landing gear and certain blockpoint features that made it a mish mash between earlier variants and later Bombcat variants and a paint job that matched neither directio...

The BBI Blue Angels bird was all factory done. All the plastic and diecast ready made model companies use tampo printing in the factory. Some call it pad printing or tampo pad printing, etc.

Re: blue angle decales needed
Your best bet would be someone who has an ALPS printer. If you're thinking yellow decals to place over the blue paint, then an ALPS printer is the only way this would make it happen. No inkjet or laser printer existing can print any color with complete opacity. What's worse, the lighter the color de...
