The Skyraider will have many great paint options. My favorite would be the Intrepid version that VMF115 posted.

Racing?
How about a Corsair and a Mustang in post-war racing markings? Unlimited class! I think they even had a P-38 or two.

Dauntless
I love how the pre-production looks! It is fabulous! I minor thing, but I hope that one of the modifications might include an upper cowl scoop that the -2 through -4 had. (the SBD-1 had a different style cowl scoop) The cowl with no scoop as shown on the pre-production is correct for a -5 and -6. Th...

Landing Gear
Good idea! I'll bet that would work indeed! They could pull it off if they use metal instead of plastic.

Pilot gear
I just saw MK's question about the pilot. I think the crew in the Atlantic Avenger is correct for cooler weather. Certainly not the rolled-up sleeves of some of the 21C Corsairs. If I recall correctly, in even colder weather, Navy pilots would've donned a leather jacket which had a dark fur collar t...

Atlantic Avenger
For MK: The Avengers flew with their little brothers the Wildcats as "hunter-killer" 2-plane teams from escort carriers. These Wildcats (mostly FM-2's at this point) were in use long after their Pacific brethren were replaced by the Hellcats. At some point during the Atlantic ASW war, the U-boats ch...

It's a beauty!!! It is cool that it has a connection to your father, too. Post some photos of him with his Skyraider sometime, if its okay. Thanks also for posting the photos. Between getting all the versions of the SBD and this one, I need another room!! I believe it is a AD-6 version, a great one ...

Hints and more hints...
I can't venture a new guess with the hints that have been made so far. Many good guesses and reasonings thus far. The two aircraft possibilities that seem most popular are the C-47 and the Skyraider. Both are Douglas aircraft, like the Dauntless. The C-47 could be construed as a father to the Dauntl...

At the museum
The Naval Aviation Museum is one of my favorite places to visit. BuNo 2016 was on view the last time I was there. They also had a great exhibit portraying the lake bottom with a Dauntless and I think a Wildcat in unrestored condition. Here's the skinny on their Dauntlesses: http://broadcast.illumina...

To Jason
Jason: Thanks for the kind comments. I greatly appreciate Admiral for going ahead with the SBD. I know that there are many others besides me that felt the Dauntless would be worth a 1:18 version. I hope this one will be a great success for your company! I had a feeling that a 1:18 Dauntless would be...

Block Island
Interesting parallel (probably unintentional) that the Atlantic Avenger also was from the Block Island (CVE-21) and this Corsair from the Block Island (CVE-106) in the Pacific. CVE-21 was sunk by a sub in the Atlantic. Interesting story:

wild guess
I'm convinced it is a B5N2 Kate. There has been much great detective work in this forum. Jason, my wild guess at your hint was way back on Sept 18th when you where talking about a Japanese tank, the Type 97. "On a side note: Here is a master model of the Type 97 Shi Ki tank from Japan. " Well, the K...

new plane
Well, I'm coming in to this very late. Very exciting news! I'll have to agree that it is a Kate B5N2. Hope it is a Pearl Harbor version to go along with the Akagi Zero!
