Re: Panzer IV
I'm skeptical about the front access doors for the PZIII being hatches for the crew. The PZIII is mechanically similar to the PZIV and the brakes and transmission have to there in the front. I believe that many of the versions of PZIII had crew hatches on the sides of the hull between the upper trac...

Re: Panzer IV
The vented hatches that you've indicated are used to access the brakes. From the picture that I've seen, there is really no room for storage. The vents are those small cylindrical shaped protrusions on the hatches allowing air to enter and cool the brakes.

By the way, I've learned since my last post here that Panzer Lehr PIV "634" was one of the two PIV's destroyed at Villers Bocage in the same battle that has made Michael Wittman famous.

Re: Panzer Markings
PIV red "122" looks to be from the 3rd Panzer Division IF the bright white marking preceding the turret numerals is a standing bear as I think it is. The 3rd served on the Eastern Front from the beginning of Barbarossa until the end of the war. I don't get why 21st Century is displaying this tank cr...

Re:Panzer Markings
There is a picture of PIV 634 in Squadron/Signal Publications' PzKpfw IV in Action. This particular tank belonged to the 2nd Battalion, Sixth Company of the 130th Panzer Lehr Regiment, the heart of the Panzer Lehr Division. The battalion was commanded by Major Prince von Schonburg who was killed in ...

Somewhat related is the tantalizing pic of the GMC 353 1942 truck (their description) on the cover of their newest catalogue. This truck has been listed on their website, www.minichamps.de, for at least a year without a picture.

I'm not into moderm armor myself, but I did find Chesy's accounts extremely interesting. Thank you for sharing them with us and thanks, also, for your efforts over there.

Re: USA M3A1 Medium Tank
I believe the tanks Black Dragon is writing about are the New Ray M3 Lee/Grant, New Ray M4 Sherman, and New Ray King Tiger (this one in two camo paint schemes). I saw them in KB Toys just before Christmas. The packaging is different from what I'd seen before and they do come with a couple of troops ...

Re: Onsitediecast King Tiger Porsche
I wouldn't be too remorseful as I've been watching this line for a couple of years and they've only produced a handful of models. In the meantime, Corgi has put out many more times the product in about half the time. I personally haven't gotten one of the Wartanks models yet. The Wartanks Henschel t...

RE: Desert Tank Question
Lightning is correct. Something about the Churchill's configuration caused the engine to kick dust forward beneath the tank which blinded the crew. The skirt was to block that dust.

21st Century New Finds - Armor
I've been able to find the Cold Steel Sherman in medium gray with daps of olive drap as well as the Cold Steel Panzer III L in Panzer gray and in Panzer yellow with the green crisscross pattern recently. The gray PIII was in the Mt. Airy, NC Wal-Mart, while the Sherman and the yellow with green PIII...

Re:Minichamps First Issue King Tiger
Just to underscore what Mr. Football has written, I have never seen a picture of the King Tiger with the MG on the cupola. I have seen pictures of both the Porsche-turreted and Henschel-turreted versions with the mounting bracket for the MG in place. Therefore, I conclude that the MG must have been ...
